One of the most infuriating things that any thing/person/dynamic/institution can be is gratuitously self-righteous. And the Tim Allen vehicle Home Improvement was certainly that. The fact that the writers and producers perpetuated that fucking tripe about Wilson’s face for the decade that show was on television is nauseating. And then they come out with it at the end of the show - like they’re giving us what we’ve all been waiting for. “Oh my god, I can’t wait to watch the finale of Home Improvement, they’ll surely show Wilson’s face!”
Who fucking cares what Wilson looks like? Were those people so fucking vain that they thought that America actually gave a shit about Wilson’s face? It was like when Geico did a cliffhanger commercial that almost revealed the Gecko’s country of origin. Except that no one wanted to know that, because no one cares about the Geico Gecko. And if for some fucking obscenely stupid reason you did care about Wilson’s face, you could just find a picture of Earl Hindman. They didn’t keep that information under fucking wraps.
And then they show his face - okay, he’s a blown white guy. Which is exactly what you knew he was. Was anyone expecting him to be like a werewolf? Or the elephant man? What was the angle? It’s patronizing. It makes me feel judged.
